What is a Cataract Surgery?

Cataract surgery is a common and safe eye procedure performed by an eye specialist (ophthalmologist) to restore clear vision when the eye’s natural lens becomes cloudy due to a cataract. During the surgery, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with a clear artificial intraocular lens (IOL). This helps improve blurred vision, reduce glare, and enhance overall eyesight. Cataract surgery is usually a quick, painless, day-care procedure with a high success rate and a short recovery period.

Advanced Eye Care and Diagnostics

Before any surgery, precision is key. We use high-end diagnostic tools to map out your eye health with incredible detail.

OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography)

This is a non-invasive imaging test. Our OCT scan uses light waves to take cross-section pictures of your retina, helping our doctors see every layer of your eye.

HFA (Humphrey Field Analyzer)

To check your peripheral vision and overall eye health, we use the HFA test. This is especially important for patients who might be dealing with more than just cataracts.

Specialized Treatment for Glaucoma

Apart from cataracts, we are also experts in managing and treating Kala motia treatment (Glaucoma). Unlike cataracts, glaucoma often has no early symptoms but can lead to permanent vision loss if not managed.

Answered by a Eye Surgeon

Is Cataract surgery painful?
Not at all. We use local anesthetic drops to numb the eye. Most patients only feel a slight pressure, and the procedure is usually over in 15–20 minutes.
What is the difference between Safed motia and Kala motia?
  • Safed motia (Cataract) is the clouding of the eye’s natural lens and is easily fixed with surgery.
  • Kala motia (Glaucoma) is caused by high eye pressure and requires ongoing management or Glaucoma surgery to prevent permanent blindness.
  • How soon can I go back to work after surgery?
Most patients can return to light activities and work within 2 to 3 days. However, you should avoid heavy lifting or swimming for a couple of weeks.
Why do I need an OCT or HFA test?
An OCT scan helps us see the health of your retina in 3D, while an HFA test checks your field of vision. These tests ensure that your eye is healthy enough for surgery and that no other issues are hiding.
Do I need to stay in the hospital overnight?
No. Cataract surgery is a "day-care" procedure. You can walk in, have the surgery, and go home the same afternoon.
